Air Alphabets

Increase your range of movement , strength and endurance with precise foot and toe action.

With your toes pointed in the air, imagine that your big toe is a pencil and draw the letters of the alphabet in the air. Do both the capitals and small letters to increase muscle endurance.

Exercises can be executed lying on a mat with the working leg up at 90 degree angle, sitting on a simple stool. Sitting on an exercise ball (Great for core stability) or standing on a balance board with or without support assistance. You will find that in the various positions, the difficulty level changes and certain muscles will work harder.

Create your own routine! eg. Mondays could be letter A-G lying on a mat and then alternate to standing with assistance with your leg in front and side positions. Tuesday could be sitting on a stool doing letters H-P with an alternate to be standing in balance with leg out in a low arabesque (to the back). Be creative, all variations will help you achieve your goal of dancing with more control and less strain.

Be careful to isolate the movement of the ankle and to not overuse the knee or hip joint.

Be sure to practice both right and left evenly.

Calf and hip flexer stretches are recommended after each workout session.
